Dreidel Card!

Do you know what a Dreidel is?  It’s a toy that is used on Chanukah by kids and adults alike!  It is a fun game and I wanted to make a card showing this toy.  Of course, I couldn’t find a Dreidel stamp.  So I did punch art instead!

I used a square punch (you can use any size) and punched out two squares from the same paper.  I then lined up the second piece, adhered it and cut it down the sides. Because it would be impossible to explain in words, I made a graphic for you!

To finish it off, I made a little handle out of glimmer paper (what else?) and ta da, the dreidel was done!  I did stamp some hebrew letters on it — using a stamp set that belongs to my kids (shhhh).

Paper: Crumb Cake, Lost Lagoon, Cherry on Top DSP, Glimmer Paper
Accessories: White satin ribbon, metallic doilies

Paper Menorah

So you’ll laugh at this one.  I was inspired for this card by a beautiful Christmas tree card made by my friend, Kimberly Van Diepen.  Christmas tree . . . Menorah, it’s all good.  It has a beautiful effect in person.  The gently folded paper that makes up the card has a vintage, airy feel.  It is a fun card and I hope you enjoy it.

To make this card, I cut a piece of Typset DSP 2 x 12.  I then put tombow liquid adhesive down the length of the 12″ inch strip and adhered it together along the long edge.  I didn’t put a crisp fold in the paper because I wanted to by airy.  It’s hard to see in the picture, but the papers have a rounded fold.  I then measured 1/4 inch lightly in pencil down the whole 12″ length and cut out the little strips of paper.  I put a some adhesive down the center of the Very Vanilla cream card stock and then built the menorah.  The Menorah was actually going to face the other way, but my 5 year old daughter told me to flip it and I liked it so much better.  So I went with it and kept going 🙂

Chanukah Card

I got creative and used the Sprinkles of Life (click here) stamp set to make a chanukah card.  I used the candle and some gold glimmer paper and ta da, it’s a menorah!

Glittery Menorah

For the candles, I used pretty much every color in the Stampin’ Up! “Brights” color collection.  Gotta have some bright and cheerful candles, no?

Chanukah Event

I had such a fun event on Tuesday night!  First, I have tell you that Thursday night I was beyond exhausted.  I had been up since the early hours of the morning and had a hard day.  I was worried that I wouldn’t be energized for the event. But once the event rolled around, I had a great time.  The women were lovely.  We were cracking jokes and laughing so hard.  I love that my hobby brings smiles, not just into my life, but everyone it touches.  This is why I do what I do.

Here were the projects we made.

The card is simple but looks elegant.  There is loads of sparkle all over the menorah, but unfortunately the glitter did not show up in the photo.  We needed to keep it it simple because the event was late at night and I knew people would want to take home something gorgeous but not have to work too hard. . . this fit the bill.

The next project was a little gift bag with chocolate coins (gelt).  They were special chocolates — imported from Europe.  I know the women enjoyed them 🙂  This project also has more glam than it seems.  There is a rhinestone in the center and there is silver foil behind the light purple banner.  See it?

Chanukah Card

I’m so excited — I’m going to be at a craft show!  The theme for the craft show is Chanukah — so I need lots of Chanukah cards.  Below is a design I made to sell at the craft fair.

In person, you can see the sparkle on the menorah.  Gotta have sparkle!!

More CASE fun!

Last week I challenged my friends on Facebook to show me their favorite card and I would CASE it.  Check out Robin’s favorite:

I don’t have the stamp set used, or the framelet.  No problem!  Don’t ever let that hold you back if you love a card.  Find supplies you already have and use the card for inspiration.  I used the same color scheme as the catalog card and gold embossing powder for the menorah.  To make the background, I used my aqua painter and a bunch of different inks.  To use the inks from your pads, with the ink pad closed, squish the top down.  When you open the pad, there will be a little bit of ink on the lid.  Use that with your aqua painter.  Here’s my card.

TIP:  When using an aqua painter, it is best to use special watercolor paper.  However, I didn’t have any on hand so I used whisper white.  If using whisper white, be careful not to go over the same area too many times with the aqua painter or your paper will fray.

Have fun getting ideas from the catalog and use the inspiration to make your own creations.  Be sure to send me photos of your cards — I love seeing what you come up with.
